Dr Umesh Mishra is a highly experienced Paediatrician and Neonatologist dedicated to providing compassionate, evidence-based care for newborns, infants, and children.
With over two decades of experience in neonatal and paediatric medicine, he has developed expertise in caring for both healthy and critically ill newborns, including those born prematurely or with complex medical conditions. Dr Mishra holds a Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (FRACP) in Perinatal and Neonatal Medicine. He has trained and worked across some of Australia’s leading centres, including Westmead Hospital, the Children’s Hospital at Westmead, the Royal Hospital for Women, and Sydney Children’s Hospital in NSW.
His experience also extends to NETS VIC (PIPER), the Royal Children’s Hospital Melbourne, and the Royal Women’s Hospital Melbourne, giving him broad expertise in neonatal retrievals, complex case management, and multidisciplinary care. He now also consults privately, supporting families with expert guidance in neonatal care, developmental follow-up, feeding, growth, and common paediatric health concerns.
In addition to his clinical work, Dr Mishra is passionate about medical education and research. He regularly teaches medical students, junior doctors, and nursing staff through tutorials, simulation training, and clinical skills workshops. His research contributions focus on neonatal thermoregulation, incubator humidity, and growth outcomes in extremely preterm infants, with several publications in peer-reviewed journals. He continues to advance neonatal care through ongoing academic projects and international collaborations. Families consistently describe Dr Mishra as approachable, thorough, and supportive, with a strong focus on clear communication and shared decision-making. His philosophy is to guide families with practical, reassuring advice while ensuring that every child receives the highest standard of medical care. Outside of medicine, Dr Mishra is actively engaged in community service and teaching mindfulness through the Art of Living Foundation, reflecting his holistic approach to health and wellbeing.
His interests in mindfulness, meditation, and community education complement his medical practice, bringing together both science and compassion in the care of children and their families.
